Eight named breaks across two islands. Pick the wave, the camp follows.
Long sand-bottom beach break at the village of El Cotillo. Gentle whitewater rolls in the protected south end, more punch outside. The beginner zone for most Fuerteventura surf schools. Water 19 to 23°C year-round.
Sandy beach break inside the Corralejo dunes-national-park stretch. Long shoulder-high rolls, surf schools running daily lessons. Best at low to mid tide. Drive 10 minutes east of Corralejo town.
Reef break 10 minutes north of El Cotillo. Right-hand wave on lava bottom, fun shape on clean north swell. Holds size to head-high before it gets serious. Booties recommended.
Two of the famous north-shore reefs. Hierro is a fast right, Generosa a heavier left often called the most powerful wave on the island. Lava bottom, advanced surfers only, best on clean winter swell.
The 6 km arc of sand under the Risco de Famara cliffs. Inside whitewater for beginners, outside peaks for intermediates. Holds size from October to March with enough peaks to spread the crowd.
The island's signature wave. Heavy left-hand reef break near La Santa, often called the European Pipeline. Short, hollow, breaking over shallow lava. Booties essential, advanced surfers only.
Right-hand reef on the same stretch as El Quemao. Works on the same winter swells but less crowded because it is harder. Short ride, fast section, lava bottom.
Point break 15 minutes east of Famara, holding size when Famara closes out. Right-hand wave with longer rides than most spots on the island. Limited peak so always populated.

Drive: 25 to 35 minutes to Corralejo, El Cotillo or Lajares on the FV-1 motorway. Camp arranges private transfer for €25 to €40 per car. Public bus (Tiadhe line 7) runs hourly to Corralejo for €3.05.
Drive: 30 minutes via the LZ-2 and LZ-401. Camp arranges private transfer for €30. No regular public bus between airport and Famara, so private transfer or rental car is standard.
Binter Canarias flies hourly between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote (30 min, around €60 one-way). Ferries (Naviera Armas) take 1.5 hours, around €30. Rental car €25 to €50 / day, essential for north-shore spot access on both islands.
A 3/2 from December to April when water sits at 19 to 20°C. A 2 mm shorty or board shorts the rest of the year, when water hits 22 to 23°C. Booties essential for the volcanic reefs (Hierro, El Quemao, San Juan).
All three camps include boards (soft-boards plus fibreglass), leashes, wax and rash vests in the package. Bring sunscreen (the trade winds mask UV intensity), a peaked cap and a spare leash for the reef sessions.
The Canary Islands are part of Spain (Schengen), so EU passport holders need no visa. Non-EU travellers follow standard Schengen rules. 4-hour flights from London, Berlin, Paris, Madrid. Year-round daily flights.
Currency is Euro (EUR). ATMs and contactless payment everywhere. Tipping not expected: 5 to 10 percent at restaurants is generous. The Canary Islands have lower VAT (IGIC) than mainland Spain, so prices are noticeably lower for petrol and electronics.
EU roaming applies (free for EU SIM holders). Non-EU travellers can buy a Vodafone, Movistar or Orange SIM at the airport. Camp Wi-Fi is fast on both islands. Mobile data is reliable across both north shores.
The lava reefs at Hierro, Generosa, El Quemao and San Juan cut deeper than they look. Wear booties, clean cuts after each session. The trade winds make UV protection essential year-round. Currents on the north shores push west on a falling tide: paddle parallel if caught.
Three: Laola Surf Camp and International Surf School in Fuerteventura, and Surf Camp Lanzarote Calima Famara in Lanzarote. All three are open year-round.
International Surf School in Corralejo (Fuerteventura) is the most structured beginner programme, with daily theory, video review and a sand-bottom training zone at Cotillo. Calima Famara on Lanzarote also runs a strong beginner programme on the inside zone of Famara beach. Both work for first-time surfers.
From €150 for a 2-night stay at International Surf School Fuerteventura, including coached surf and accommodation. A typical 7-night package runs €400 to €900 across the three camps depending on room type and season.
Fuerteventura for longer sand-bottom beach breaks, more spots within driving distance, and the trade-wind kite season from June to September. Lanzarote for heavier reef setups (Famara, El Quemao, San Juan) and a quieter, more volcanic-landscape feel. Beginners and kiters lean Fuerteventura. Intermediates and reef chasers lean Lanzarote.
For peak winter weeks (Christmas to mid-February), book 8 to 12 weeks ahead. Shoulder months (October, March, April) usually have availability up to 4 weeks out. Summer kite season (July to August) is also peak for Fuerteventura; book early. Live availability shows directly on each camp page.
Recommended on Fuerteventura for north-shore spot access (Rocky Point, Hierro, Bubble all need wheels). Optional on Lanzarote if you stay in Famara village, where the main surf is walking distance. Rental cars run €25 to €50 per day. All three camps include a daily shuttle to the main surf spots in their packages.
Pick the camp that matches your island and your level. All three have live availability and instant booking. For background reading on spots and seasons, see the Canary Islands destination guide.
